Baby Step 2
Dear Mama, If you're feeling overwhelmed about starting the homeschooling year, come join us on our baby steps path to a peaceful home and rhythm. Start at baby step 1! Love, Kelly
Today I want you to take out your planning notebook and make a few quick lists.
Read over the topics below, then close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and let the answers come to you. If you tend to overthink things, set a timer and just write about each topic for 5 minutes then stop!
First list 1-2 goals for each of your children. These goals should describe what you want to bring to each child this year (not what you want them to accomplish or learn). They should come from your heart (not from a curriculum).
Next answer the question: How do I want this homeschooling year to FEEL? List words to capture how you want this year to feel for your family! Then pick three or so of your most compelling words and complete this sentence in writing: This homeschooling year will feel…..
You did it! If you want to celebrate and find motivation with other awesome mamas, head over to this post on facebook and let us know how you want your homeschooling year to feel!
P.S. If you feel stuck and need an example, here’s what I wrote for my family this year:
Aiya (age 7.5 - grade 2):
1. Regular daily practice with real skills such as reading, mental arithmetic, riding a bike, knitting, singing, and recorder.
2. Feed her imagination, love of learning, creativity, and joy/delight in the world through days filled with stories, great books, play, nature studies, long rambles and time to be outside, and time to make art together.
Sierra (age 5 - first year of Kindy)
1. Peaceful daily and weekly rhythms filled with connection, song, stories, time outdoors, and time to play.
2. Just the right amount of activities to nurture her body and spirit in the wonderful 5-year-old year including baking bread, making crafts, painting, swimming, hiking, and playing with friends.
